The apple is a fruit belonging to the rose family that has made appearances across time, ranging from ancient Greek mythology to the bible itself. It would almost seem that the apple is the oldest thing on earth, but unlike the poisoned version in Snow White, the fruit that we are aware of is far more healthier for you.
Ironically in comparison to other fruits, apples actually have a very low amount of vitamin C, but health benefits are still much greater than many other types of fruits. If you have irretible bowels, or find yourself constipated, apples are great for the digestive track, plus if you are trying to lose weight and need something to snack on other than candy - apples are very good for cholesterol and helping with weight loss.
By adding a little peanut butter to the fruit, you can give a healthy source of protein and all the minerals and antioxidants that your body needs. Vitamin B6, calcium, zinc, iron, potassium, magnesium, and folate are just some of the things that the apple has to offer.
Apples are also widely believed to help with mental issues or instability, and apparently can aid in cognitive processes which may be helpful to elderly persons and preventing "mental aging". Apples also are thought to be good for the bone density in post menopausal women, helping in strengthening the bones against osteoporosis.
Apples also have the ability to lower the body's need for insulin, which in turn could be of great use to diabetics.
