First up I would like to say that I never got into juicing to avoid eating meat. I understand that for a lot of people that this is probably your reason. My reason was always to simply eat better, and get more exercise, not even just to look good - but to FEEL good.
That being said, I'm always trying to find ways to build more strength and develop more, raw energy. Doing so helps me sleep, and keep a good balance in my life, and allows me to have more energy to devote to the things that I love most during the day time.
So, when I felt that I was getting a little soft around the edges, I decided to track down a solution that would get me feeling great first, and if I could start looking a little better as a result - then that would be the cherry on top.
I considered a lot of possibilities, and yes there are tons. Growing up on a farm, however, I really wanted that intense feeling and exhaustion/satisfaction of knowing that I put my body through something really awesome. Most exercise plans are for people who just want to try them out, but not commit unfortunately.
If you gave me the opportunity to workout in a gym all summer, or bail hay - I'd bail hay. I don't like that particular job, but even though I'm not very big, I know that kind of work builds true strength and discipline more than a set of weights.
On to my original point. In my quest for a driver of discipline, I stumbled upon this program called Spartan Health Regimen. It was created by a man who is definitely serious about his work, and rather than base his routine on typical movements and plans, he actually looked to the ancients for wisdom.
The years of experimenting, self educating, and study led to a complete fitness program that I suppose you could certainly say revolves around endurance. Its not easy. But, then again, anything that you REALLY want in life isn't. Its for people who have a shear passion of developing more strength and living cleaner, healthier life style, and some of the points that he offers on these very topics I found to be extremely enlightening and unique.
I am huge lover of history, and this man, Bova, obviously is as well. So of course I naturally fell in love with the idea of training like some of these ancient cultures, as they probably would have trained for battle readiness, but what really blew me away were the sometimes obvious solutions to total health, that somehow we as a modern society have lost touch with.
I believe it is even mentioned that though these ideas are not new, they are simply not being realized to their fullest potential. Have you ever looked at an ancient Greek sculpture of a man and thought to yourself "that's just ridiculous"? Well I always did too, thinking that the artists had taken special "liberties" to exaggerate the ancient's physiques. Now I'm starting to question this, and it was all because of Spartan Health Regimen.
