The mango is a beautiful little fruit that has a very lush color. It originates from the land mass that is mostly India, but is also cultivated all over the world in tropical regions. The mango has a full flavor contact with the tongue, and yet the taste of this tropical fruit is quite amiable with many different types of dishes.
The mango has also been used for centuries as a ceremonial fruit at both weddings and funerals. This fruit takes a long time to ripen, but the result is quite fantastic, as it has a pleasant aroma, texture and color. The mango fruit has a well rounded and balanced palette of vitamins and minerals. Some of which include vitamin A, B6, vitamin C, Zinc, Magnesium, Calcium, and beta-carotene, and there are many more, such as folate, pantothenic acid, and a good amount of dietary fiber.
Probably the biggest health reward that can be obtained from eating fresh mangoes would be the beta-carotene, but there is also another major plus. The mango contains strong amounts of phenolic compounds, which is in turn chock full of antioxidants, aiding in the combat of disease and free radicals. Vitamin E is also present along with Selenium, which is also an aid to the fighting of free radicals.
The mango fruit contains good amounts of iron as well, which is perfect for anemic people, and it should be eaten on a regular basis to help with problems of anemia. It is also beneficial to heart disease and respiratory related problems, and the dietary fiber or pectin makes it suitable for those who want to eat well and lose weight.
It should be pointed out however that some might find that they are allergic to it, as it is technically a member of the poison ivy family, but in general most people don't seem to have a problem with eating mango fruit.
